Step One: Do your Homework

Before any garage additions get to the actual blueprint stage, your first step should be to verify that it can even be done in your area. Check with the zoning board of your community, as well as any homeowner associations and county offices, to make sure that this type of construction is allowed in your area. This quest for information should also help you determine exactly where you can build it, how far from the property line, what materials are approved for it and whether or not it can be attached to the main house. Step Two: Planning Stage
